Another way :

If 2p : 4.5 = 4 : p,

Then 2p/4.5 = 4/p

Cross multiply,

2p² = 4.5 x 4 = 18

p² = 9

p = √9 = 3 (we do not consider -3 since the terms in a ratio is always positive)

Since 4 : p = ½ : q,

4/p = ½/q

cross multiply,

4q = ½p

q = ⅛p = ⅛(3)

= ⅜
