when they say x-coordinates on the curve can we just treat it as a normal line and ignore it or do they mean smth with the word 'curve'
We can't just treat the two x-coordinates as a normal line, since these points lie on the curve.
However, the question subsequently asked you to join these two points with a line. Now, we only care about these two points (and not the curve any longer), so we simply form the equation of a line with these two coordinates.
