Add 5 to the number and dividing the result by 2 is the same as subtracting 3 from the number.

Let number be 1 unit

(1 unit + 5) ÷ 2 = 1 unit - 3

1 unit + 5 = (1 unit - 3) x 2

1 unit + 5 = 2 units - 6

1 unit + 5 + 6 = 2 units

1 unit + 11 = 1 unit + 1 unit

So 1 unit = 11

The number is 11
