Assume D is the midpoint of AE.

Then DE = 14cm ÷ 2
= 7cm

Area of triangle BCD
= ½ x BC x DE

= ½ x 14cm x 7cm

= 7cm x 7cm

= 49cm²

Hi J, thx for helping to solve. For my knowledge purposes, are we allow to assume that DE is half of the full length if we do get such questions again in future? I was thking the same but dare not use that assumption.

I would recommend that you clarify with the teacher/setter first if there's any information missing, if you encounter this problem again. From how I see it, the setter has left out an important piece of information.
