A faster way :

Notice that to get from 3 to 4½, you have to multiply by 1½ (or 1.5, or 3/2)

So for the 9/2, you multiply by 1½ to get y

y = 9/2 x 1½

= 9/2 x 3/2

= 27/4 (or 6¾ ,or 6.75)

Now for x, you do the reverse. Divide by 1½

x = 15/4 ÷ 1½

= 15/4 ÷ 3/2

= 15/4 x 2/3

= 5/2 (or 2½ , or 2.5)

Here you go. Trick to this type of question is to make the known ration the same for both sides and then compare the corresponding integers to get your answer.
