Only agree with the first statement. Firstly, you cannot simply add up the total increase in percentage just like what the student did.

Additionally, when you want to compare the increase in %, you always take the [difference between the two years divide by the initial value] multiply by 100%. Always divide by the initial value that you can comparing to.
