fg(x) = (x + 10)/(x + 4)
= (x + 4 + 6)/(x + 4)
= 1 + 6/(x + 4)
= 2(3/(x + 4)) + 1
Comparing with f(x) = px + 1 , g(x) = 3/(x + q),
p = 2, q = 4
= (x + 4 + 6)/(x + 4)
= 1 + 6/(x + 4)
= 2(3/(x + 4)) + 1
Comparing with f(x) = px + 1 , g(x) = 3/(x + q),
p = 2, q = 4
Alternatively,
fg(x)
= p(3/(x + q)) + 1
= 3p/(x + q) + 1
= (3p + x + q)/(x + q)
= (x + 3p + q)/(x + q)
Comparing coefficients,
q = 4 (denominator)
3p + q = 10 (numerator)
3p = 10 - q
3p = 10 - 4 = 6
p = 6 ÷ 3 = 2
