2x + 2y = 60
2 (x + y) = 60
x + y = 30
y = 30 - x
Since the area is 216 m^2,
xy = 216
x (30 - x) = 216
30x - x^2 = 216
0 = x^2 - 30x + 216
x^2 - 30x + 216 = 0
(x - 18) (x - 12) = 0
x - 18 = 0 or x - 12 = 0
x = 18 or x = 12
y = 12 or y = 18
(they come as equal pairs)
So the playground measures 18 m by 12 m.
