At the x-axis, y = 0 (this is for points A and B). Think why this is the case.
(x + 2) (x - 3) = 0
x + 2 = 0 or x - 3 = 0
x = -2 or x = 3
A (-2, 0) and B (3, 0)
At yhe y-axis, x = 0 (this is for point C). Think why this is the case.
y = (0 + 2) (0 - 3)
y = -6
C (0, -6)
(x + 2) (x - 3) = 0
x + 2 = 0 or x - 3 = 0
x = -2 or x = 3
A (-2, 0) and B (3, 0)
At yhe y-axis, x = 0 (this is for point C). Think why this is the case.
y = (0 + 2) (0 - 3)
y = -6
C (0, -6)
Since P (2, p) is on the curve,
y = p when x = 2
p = (2 + 2) (2 - 3)
p = -4
P (2, -4)
Since the straight line y = -x + q passes through P,
y = -4 when x = 2
-4 = -2 + q
-4 + 2 = q
-2 = q
y = p when x = 2
p = (2 + 2) (2 - 3)
p = -4
P (2, -4)
Since the straight line y = -x + q passes through P,
y = -4 when x = 2
-4 = -2 + q
-4 + 2 = q
-2 = q
