Tips for you:

Step 1: Find a common denominator (Do you know why)
Step 2: Expand and simplify

Try these steps and tell me your answer. I will show you the full solution once you are done. Good luck

Nope. Try again. If the question is asking you to simplify it, the answer is a fraction.

Wrong but not bad. You found the common denominator which is 10 because 2 × 5 = 10. Now the problem is what's the nominators.

Probably something is wrong when you expand and merge the expressions. Remember when you do something to the denominator, the same will apply to the nominators.

Try again, it is (_n+_) out of 10 where _ can be a positive or negative number.

The idea is very similar to the following primary school question.

Calculate 1/2 + 2/5 and leave your answer as a single fraction.

What would you do?

Well...

1/2 + 2/5
= 5/10 + 4/10 (you make them the same denominator, so you times 5 for the first fraction on both the numerator and denominator, and likewise you times 2 for the second fraction on both the numerator and denominator)
= 9/10

The idea here is very similar, except with algebraic terms inside.

Let me know if you need more explanation.
