a) Ahmad is 3 TIMES as old as Farhan.
Ahmad's age = 3 * x = 3x
(Note: If Ahmad were 3 years older than Farhan, then Ahmad's age would have been x + 3. Note the difference in wording.)
b)
Farhan's age in 12 years' time
= Farhan's present age + 12
= x + 12
Ahmad's age
= Ahmad's present age + 12
= 3x + 12
Sum of their ages in 12 years' time
= x + 12 + 3x + 12
= 4x + 24
c) Sum of their ages in 12 years' time
= 10 * Farhan's present age
4x + 24 = 10x
d)
10x = 4x + 24
10x - 4x = 24
6x = 24
x = 4
Ahmad's present age
= 3x
= 3 * 4
= 12
Ahmad's present age is 12 years.
