Each quarter circle has a radius of 42/2 = 21 cm.

Total area of the four quarter-circles
= 4 x (1/4 x pi x radius x radius)
= 4 x (1/4 x 22/7 x 21 x 21)
= 1386 cm2

Area of large square
= 42 x 42
= 1764 cm2

Area of shaded region
= 1764 - 1386
= 378 cm2
