Given: 2.4 cm = 6km on a map
Scale 1 : n, n = ?

Convert 6km to cm.
1km = 1000m
1m = 100cm

6km
= 6 * 1000 m
= 6 * 1000 * 100 cm
= 600,000 cm

On the map,
2.4 cm = 600,000 cm
Therefore,
1 cm = 600,000 / 2.4 cm = 250,000 cm

So, the map is drawn to the scale 1 : 250,000

n = 250,000

Maybe converting km to cm is easier to the eye since there are no decimals involved.

Scale of map
= Length scale
= 2.4 cm : 6 km
= 2.4 cm : 6 000 m
= 2.4 cm : 600 000 cm
= 2.4 : 600 000
= 1 : 250 000

where n is 250 000.
