Vincent's total score
= Sum of the first two scores
= (2p - 4q + 11) + (3p + 7q - 6)
= 2p - 4q + 11 + 3p + 7q - 6
= 2p + 3p + 7q - 4q + 11 - 6
= 5p + 3q + 5

Since Vincent obtained the minimum total score to pass the examination (do NOT assume that the passing mark is 50),

Vincent's score in the third paper
= Passing mark - Vincent's first two scores
= 15p + 8q - (5p + 3q + 5)
= 15p + 8q - 5p - 3q - 5
= 15p - 5p + 8q - 3q - 5
= 10p + 5q - 5

Since 5 is a common term, we can factor it out and the rest remain in the bracket.

= 5 (2p + q - 1)
