Complete the square.
x² + 7x - 13
= x² + 2(3.5)x + (3.5)² - (3.5)² - 13
("a² + 2ab + b²" )
= (x + 3.5)² - 12.25 - 13
"(a + b)"²
= (x + 3.5)² - 25.25
Compare the terms,
a = 3.5, b = -25.25
x² + 7x - 13

= (x + 3.5)² - 12.25 - 13
