The unshaded area is the same for both.

Fraction of A that is unshaded
= 1 - 10/11
= 1/11

Fraction of B that is unshaded
= 1 - 4/5
= 1/5

The unshaded area is the same so the units must be the same for the 2 fractions' numerators. (Equal concept)

In this case it's already the same.

1/11 of A = 1/5 of B

Looking at the denominator,

We can say area A is 11 units and area B is 5 units.

The numerator tells us that unshaded area is 1 unit.

Area of whole figure

= Area of A + Area of B - area of overlap
= 11 units + 5 units - 1 unit
= 15 units

Shaded area A = 11 units - 1 unit
= 10 units

Ratio of shaded area A to whole figure
= 10 : 15
= 2 : 3
