numerator = x

Denominator = x + 4

Original fraction = x/(x + 4)

New fraction

= (x + 3)/(x + 4 + 3) = 4/5

(x + 3)/(x + 7) = 4/5
(this is your desired equation)

Cross multiply,

5 (x + 3) = 4 (x + 7)

5x + 15 = 4x + 28

x = 28 - 15

x = 13

So x + 4 = 17

Original fraction is 13/17
