Easy. Convert the percentages to fractions

Alba spent 45% of his money, Dale spent 60% of his money.

45% = 45/100 = 9/20
60% = 60/100 = 3/5

Fraction of money Alba had left = 1 - 9/20 = 11/20

Fraction of money Dale had left = 1 - 3/5 = 2/5

Since they had the same amount of $ left,
the number of units should be the same.

(Equal concept, you should have learnt this in P5)

Make the numerators the same.

The smallest common multiple of 11 and 2 is 22 (2 x 11, 11 x 2)

11/20 = 22/40 (multiply by 2)
2/5 = 22/55 (multiply by 11)

Looking at the denominators, we can say that Alba had 40 units at first and Dale had 55 units at first.

Difference = 55 units - 40 units = 15 units

Difference also = $450

So 15 units = $450

1 unit = $450 ÷ 15 = $30

$ they have together in the end

= 22 units x 2
= 44 units

= 44 x $30

= $1320
