The figure on the right is of the paper when unfolded/before folding.

Isosceles triangle means 2 sides are equal.


Length of one of the equal side = 6cm + 6cm + 8cm = 20cm

(Note that when you unfold the paper, the 6cm portion gets mapped back to the starting point before folding )

We can use the equal sides as height and base since they are 90° to each other.

(The triangle is right angled and the two equal sides form an angle of 90° with each other. They are perpendicular sides)

Area of paper before folding
= Area of triangle
= ½ x base x height
= ½ x 20cm x 20cm
= 10cm x 20cm
= 200cm²
