1. Guess a number out in the form x = k
2. Convert the above into "(x - k) is a factor"
3. Do long division or comparing coefficients to find the remaining quadratic factor
4. Factorise the cubic equation into the product of (x - k) and the quadratic factor
5. Solve f(x) = 0
6. Rewrite f(x) = 0 as (x - k) (quadratic factor) = 0
7. Solving, x - k = 0 or quadratic factor = 0
8. For x - k = 0, we get x = k (what we guess earlier in the first place)
9. For quadratic factor = 0, we can use quadratic formula etc to obtain our solutions.
10. Combine them together for all the possible solution(s) of the equation f(x) = 0
