I wonder what warrants the discrepancy in marks credited for the two parts. The solutions execute similar ideas in near-identical length, barring the hint inserted. Should the problem contributors really weigh the inclusion of the hint as 4 full points deducted from presentation? Ok enough of that english. But really why part two so many more marks than part one

Probably is a issue on the Cambridge side since this is one of those S paper questions the poster has been uploading

Alternative working without actually writing it as a sum of the terms or subtracting equations :

Sn - kS(n-1) = c

Based in question's instructions,

S(n-1) - kS(n-2) = c

So Sn - kS(n-1) = S(n-1) - kS(n-2)

Sn - S(n-1) = k( S(n-1) - S(n-2) )

un = k u(n-1)

un / u(n-1) = k

Common ratio k so it's a G.P
