shortcut is:
always choose the series one for largest & the parallel one for smallest


option A
Resistance = R/3


option B
Resistance = R/2 + R = 3R/2


option C
Resistance = R+R+R = 3R


option D
Resistance = 2R/3 + R = 5R/3

Probably just a case of mistaking 1/R for R. minor rectification would do
