Area A + Area B = 60cm²

Area A - Area B = 30cm²

(Based on diagram we know A is bigger than B)

If you add 30cm² to the 60cm², you can change the Area B into Area A. Then you will have 2 times of Area A.

30cm² + 60cm² = 90 cm²

90cm² = 2 x Area A

Area A = 90cm² ÷ 2 = 45cm²

Triangle Area formula : ½ x base x height
Triangle A has height of 9cm

Area A = 45cm² = ½ x base x 9cm

Multiply both sides by 2,

45cm² x 2 = 2 x ½ x base x 9cm

90cm² = base x 9cm

base = 90cm² ÷ 9cm
= 10cm
