Good evening Candice! Recall that lg represents a number to base 10. With an increase in one power of 10, a decimal “changes position”.

I will explain this in greater detail when I return.

Good evening Candice! The pattern works because the numbers are linked to the others by a multiplication factor which is equal to powers of 10.

By the logarithmic rules, we can split lg ab into lg a + lg b, and our “a” are powers of 10.

lg (10^x) = x, which is a nice number, and as such, we can tag the numbers easily.
