When it’s mentioned that a fraction P and a fraction of D are the same, make the numerators the same. Then, the denominators after that represent the total no. of units for each person at first.

For the last step, remember that Peter spent 3/4 of his units (16u) and that’s the same as what Dan had left. Hence, each had 84 in the end.
