We need to find the values of x for which y = 16.

We then proceed to find an expression for dy/dx using the chain and quotient rules.

Slope = Gradient, so they are asking for the numerical value of it.

Something like this. My answer is quite large, so I am not 100% confident of my workings. Having said that, these are the steps to take when differentiating such expressions.

Tara, let me know if you need me to explain further.

We can also differentiate the expression directly by bringing down the power 4 to the base, reducing the power from 4 to 3 and then differentiating the chain, but the chain in this case is the entire bracketed term in which you have to do quotient rule.
