Think of it as a clock face.

Between the 3rd and 8th person on one side, there is the 4th,5th,6th,7th person. That's 4 people.

So on the other side , there must also be 4 people.

They are the 9th,10th,1st and 2nd person.

In total there are 10 people.

Draw a half line, and put 3 and 8 on each side. Between 3 and 8, there's 4 people (4,5,6 and 7). Therefore there has to be 4 people on the other side as well.
