Realise that 243/40 = 240/40 + 3/40
= 6 + 3/40
= 6 3/40
= 6 + 3/40
= 6 3/40

for a), don’t convert both to improper fractions first. it produces huge numbers unnecessarily. just make the denominators the same and add the whole numbers separately as i’ve done.

You don't have to convert to improper fraction to add or subtract. Just change to same denominator.
