basically, this is solved by algebra.
you just have to solve the equation, then substitute in x (which is found) into one of the equations.

tip: algebra is very useful in primary school math

The last boy would have only 2, means short of 7 lollipops
9x - 7 = 6x + 20
Primary pupils only start to learn algebra, most of them dont know how use algebra
