Hi I have factorise the sum to 4(4a+3b)(4a+3b) then divide by 4 but I don’t get the answer. The answer seem to be sq roots of the factorise sum which I don’t understand why we sq roots it. Shouldn’t it divide by 4 to get the answer?

What you did when you divided by 4 was to find the “length” of a side of the square given the perimeter.

Correct is to take square roots because the number of items there is reflective of the area taken up by the items.

If you have chocolates arranged in a 5 by 4 configuration, there would be 20 chocolates altogether.

Also, when they wrote square array, they actually meant that all the rows and columns are occupied with columns (and not just covering the perimeter of the square only).

yeah, sq root. The correct identity to use is (a+b)² = a² + 2ab + b².

So 64a²+96ab +36b² = (8a)² + 2(8a)(6b) + (6b)²
= (8a + 6b)²

After taking the sq root, you get 8a+6b, which is also 2(4a+3b)
