This question requires you to realise that the degree of its remainder is at most 1 lower than the degree of its divisor. So if the divisor is of degree 4, the remainder can be up to degree 3 (highest power of x is 3), but the actual remainder can be of degree 0, 1 or 2 also.
Also note that the remainder when divided by (x - 2) (x - 4) is NOT the same as the product of the remainders when divided by each linear factor (x - 2) and (x - 4) separately.
