think positive …. saying something repeatedly, often makes it come true, and stay forever true. so do not keep saying that you are bad in math. instead, think of maths as something useful and challenging that you want to learn to overcome.

there is a good reason why many students will find this question very challenging. "NMOS 09/B7" at the beginning of the question means that this question is from National Mathematical Olympiad of Singapore 2009 paper. although this competition is for Primary 5 students, this is question 7 from round 2 of the competition, which is meant for the top participants from round 1.

nevertheless, the concept here is not difficult to grasp,

… when 2 triangles have the same base,
then the ratio of their area = ratio of their heights.
… when 2 triangles have the same heights,
then the ratio of their area = ratio of their bases.
… when 2 triangles have the same base & height,
then their areas must be equal.

once you understand this concept, this question is not really that difficult to solve.
