Hi you have the basic concept indicated there. Imagine the shape is a field and you are running around it. How far did you run? You just need to add all the sides that you ran along.
As for the area. Calculate the area of rectangle
Calculate the area of big square. Calculate the area of small square
Area of shape is area of rect + area of big square - area of small square.

Try it on your. If you are not able to do it than I show working
