Youd want the new paint to be removed by the solvent while the old paint stays. This means the new paint has to be soluble while the old paint isnt

B. We want to remove the new paint, so the new paint should be soluble in your cleansing agent, while the old paint, which we want to retain, should be insoluble so that it will not get cleaned away.
