Hi! I would like to question

4sin (theta)+ 3cos (theta) = 5sin (theta + 36.87°)
to
4sin (theta)+ 3cos (theta) = 4.8

why did the 5sin (theta + 36.87°) become 4.8?

This is a chapter my teacher made us do self learning on, so I did not have lessons based on this. Any answers would be appreciated! Thank you in advance!

I suspect it’s for part ii

Something like

Solve

4 sin x + 3 cos x = 4.8 for 0 to 360 deg.

The picture you showed only shows the solution. The question or the prior answers (maybe part (i)) has the 4.8.

See 1 Answer

It is given in part (ii) of the question, that 4 sin theta + 3 cos theta = 4.8 (refer to Chapter 10, page 274 of Think! Additional Mathematics Textbook A) ☺️
