For part (a), we have to arrange the numbers such that the ones place is aligned. In other words, the ones place must be filled with the last digits of each number.

Unlike this, the incorrect approach is to align the thousands place numbers, which will get us 9000 instead of the actual 4212.

He should not add the first digit of each numbers together as they have different values.
