you find the discounted price of 40 packs first and then see how many groups of 40 packs you can buy with $85 which is 3 groups of 40 packs . with the remaining amount of money, you divide it by the cost of 1 pack which gives 5packs. you then find the total amount of books by (3×40) + 5
