This is Sec 4 stuff? Really? The school is out to kill. What kind of company randomly awards contracts anyway?

Not that I don't know, but this thing requires the use of some A-Level formula which O-Level students will not know.

The solution looks like this, and yes, without knowing AP/GP, there's no way to explain that highlighted step besides "magic".

Of course, "magic" is not important to understanding the question.

How does A win?

1. A gets the contract straightaway.

2. A doesn't get contract, BCD don't get the contract. A gets contract.

3. A doesn't get, BCD don't get, A doesn't get again, BCD don't get again, A gets contract.

etc etc.

That's the summation step that shows understanding of the question.
