= Distance/Speed
= 2.8/v hours
(b) Time
= Distance/Speed
= 0.5/v + 2.3/(v + 4)
(c) Since Mr Kwek completed the race 3 minutes (1/20 hour) earlier,
Miss Tan - Mr Kwek = 1/20
2.8/v - 0.5/v - 2.3/(v+4) = 1/20
2.3/v - 2.3/(v+4) = 1/20
Multiplying by 20.
46/v - 46/(v + 4) = 1
Multiplying by v (v + 4),
46 (v + 4) - 46v = v (v + 4)
46v + 184 - 46v = v2 + 4v
184 = v2 + 4v
v2 + 4v - 184 = 0
(d) I have no calculator at the moment
(e) Use positive value of v and sub into
0.5/v + 2.3/(v+4)
