it is gd that u hv marked S to L @ m.p. and L to G @ b.p.

there is a simple trick to do this qn.

imagine u hv a 50 mark ( a passing mark for any test) ;
on the left side of 50 mark (meaning below 50 marks) is Fail to most of us.
Likewise, on the right side of 50 mark (meaning above 50 marks) is a Pass.

So similarly to the m.p. and b.p.,
let's take A in the table.
on the left side of m.p. of 75 degC (meaning below 75 degC) is Solid;
then what is on the right side of m.p. of 75 degC(meaning above 75 degC) ???
ans.: Liquid

likewise,
on the left side of b.p. of 169 degC (meaning below 169 degC) is Liquid;
then what is on the right side of b.p. of 169 degC(meaning above 169 degC) ???
ans.: Gas

now look at the qn(a)(i).
the qn wants Solids at room temp.
First, u need to check the value of room temp. given by your teacher.
Usually, we take room temp. to be 25 degC. But your teacher may hv given your class a different value. Use that one.

using 25 degC as room temp.,
do u think 25 degC is:
(A) below 75 degC & substance is Solid
(B) above 75 degC & substance is Solid
(C) below 169 degC and above 75 degC & substance is Solid
(D) above 169 degC & substance is Solid
???

ans: A

hence, we can list A as one substance in qn (a)(i).

and u do the same to the other substances B to E to check for solid @ 25 degC.

for qn(b),
b.p. of water is 100 degC.
using the same method described above,
what is the state of matter for D ???

ans: Gas

Hi,
Do take note that room temperature is generally defined to be 25 degrees Celsius. In summary:

Solid - - > reach melting point - - > liquid - - >reach boiling point - - > gas

Hope this helps!
Have a happy new year:)
