I am interpreting the question as asking for the number of new sub-committees where the husband and wife are not both together in the new sub-committee .

alternatively,

select husband only = 1 x 7C5 = 21
select wife only = 1 x 7C5 = 21
not select couple = 7C6 = 7
total possible committees = 21+21+7 = 49
