At point V, it is 3 units up and 3 units right to the origin. Point W is 2 units to the left 3 units downwards from the origin.

You can try drawing a straight line from V and W. You will notice it forms a right angle triangle, with VW as the hypothenuse and the other 2 sides as the sum of the length and height of point V and point W.

For example, the height of this triangle is the sum of the 3 units upwards for point V and the 3 units downwards for point W. This means that the total height if the triangle is 6 units.

If you do the same for the base, you get the length and height of the right angle triangle. Using pythagoras theorem will give you the length of VW.
