I presume “Pete” is a typo error and correct should be “Peter”.

If, instead, “Pete” is really intended to be spelt that way, and John lost 10 cards to Pete (and not Peter, since Pete and Peter are two different people), then we realise that Peter will now have 44 more cards than John.

2 units = 44 cards
1 unit = 22 cards

Then John would have had 32 cards at first.

I presume there is a question fault. The 10 cards need to be given to “Peter”, not “Pete”, or otherwise the question will probably not be correct.

If, however, the question is indeed not a typo, then the answer will be different.
