Anyone can contribute an answer, even non-tutors.
Bmat math/logical reasoning question. Answer is $27 but I’m not sure why
In order for STARS to get the least amount,
the maximum possible amount should be given to the charity that receives the most money, such that the remaining amount to be distributed to the 4 other charities (including STARS) is the smallest possible.
So $100 should be given to the charity which gets the biggest donation.
Now the remaining charities would have to share $100.
In order for STARS to receive the least possible amount of $, the difference between each charity's amount has to be the smallest possible.
Ideally, the amounts will be close to the amount each charity got if the $100 was equally divided among the 4 charities.
$100 ÷ 4 = $25
We could distribute it this way :
$23,$24,$26,$27
So STARS gets $27
Option A is definitely not possible
If STARS got $25, the maximum the other 3 charities got would be $24,$23,22, a total of $96 for the four. Then the highest awarded charity would have to receive $104, which is not allowed.
Although $26 is not in the answer options, it would similarly not work. STARS gets $26, the maximum the other 3 charities got would be $25,$24,23, a total of $102 for the four. Then the highest awarded charity would have to receive $102, which is not allowed.
An alternative combination :
STARS gets $27 , the other 3 charities get $26,$25,$24, a total of $102 for the four. The highest awarded charity gets $98.
