Tap A alone takes 8 hours.
Tap A and tap B combined takes 6 hours.
This means that in 1 hour,
- Tap A fills up 1/8 of the container
- Tap A and tap B together fill up 1/6 of the container
or in other words,
- Tap A fills up 3/24 of the container
- Tap A and tap B together fill up 4/24 of the container.
This means that Tap B alone fills up 4/24 - 3/24 = 1/24 of the container in one hour.
This means that Tap B takes 24 hours to fill up the entire container.
Tap A and tap B combined takes 6 hours.
This means that in 1 hour,
- Tap A fills up 1/8 of the container
- Tap A and tap B together fill up 1/6 of the container
or in other words,
- Tap A fills up 3/24 of the container
- Tap A and tap B together fill up 4/24 of the container.
This means that Tap B alone fills up 4/24 - 3/24 = 1/24 of the container in one hour.
This means that Tap B takes 24 hours to fill up the entire container.
