how do i find sin z
The smaller right angled triangle (I assume it since there is no other indication elsewhere) has sides 9 cm and 16 cm.
By the Pythagoras Theorem, the longest side is square root of 337.
Let’s look at angle Z. The angle beside Z is called 180 - Z, since both angles are next to each other on the same side of the line. The angles are called supplementary angles.
Using your usual trigonometric ratios (TOA CAH SOH), for the angle 180 - Z inside the smaller triangle,
sin (180 - Z) = opp / hyp
sin (180 - Z) = 9 / sqrt 337
The supplementary angle rule states that sin (180 - Z) = sin Z (for your information, cos (180 - Z) = - cos Z, while tan (180 - Z) = - tan Z, you will only learn this in Sec 3).
Therefore, sin Z = 9 / sqrt 337.
