Do you have the answer key with u? Is the answer, $32? This question requires lots of reasoning and understanding. Hmm. I got $32 while working out the question. Not too sure if you can understand as I used balancing of equations towards the end. If the answer is different, could you let me know? I will try to look at my solutions.
Peggy spent 2 units
Amount Peggy had left = 2 units + $9
Alice spent 3 units
Amount Alice had left = half of Peggy
= (2 units + $9) ÷ 2
= 1 unit + $4.50
Total amount
= 2 units + 2 units + $9 + 3 units + 1 unit + $4.50
= 8 units + $13.50
Since total amount is $105.50,
8 units + $13.50 = $105.50
8 units = $105.50 - $13.50 = $92
1 unit = $92 ÷ 8 = $11.50
Amount Peggy had left
= 2 x $11.50 + $9
= $23 + $9
= $32
Amount Peggy had left = 2 units + $9
Alice spent 3 units
