Let n be the number of years Megan and her brother take to reach 48 years old.

Megan's age in n years = 11+n
Her brother's age in n years = 3+n

Total age in n years = 48
11 + n + 3 + n = 48
14 + 2n = 48
2n = 48 - 14 = 34
n = 34/2 = 17

Number of years = 17
