let the number of pupils be x
no. of bookmarks = 4x + 8 = 6x-10
4x + 8 = 6x -10
6x - 4x = 8 + 10
2x = 18
x = 9
There are 9 pupils
hence the number of bookmarks is
4(9) + 8
= 36 + 8
= 44
