Bervyn spent $23.10.
John did not spend any money.
Let John’s final money be 8 units and Bervyn’s final money be 1 unit.
John’s starting money was also 8 units. Since John had twice as much money as Bervyn at first, Bervyn’s starting money was 4 units.
As a result, Bervyn spent 3 units of money away.
3 units = $23.10
1 unit = $23.10 / 3 = $7.70
8 units = $7.70 x 8 = $61.60
so John had $61.60.

Weird. The first time I opened the picture I did not see the $61.60 and the picture no longer loaded past the second last line. I saw it now.
